Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) has announced its latest funding decisions for 2022.

Funding was awarded across a wide genre of TV and online content with a total of 12 projects receiving funding. The aims of the ILBF are to promote the production and broadcast of quality Irish language content for an audience in Northern Ireland and beyond and to help grow the local Irish language production sector.

Clean Slate Productions Flic Saor for BBC Northern Ireland will follow the Irish Subbuteo team’s journey to the world cup, mainly through two of its members, Oisín Mac Eo and Breandan Mac Ruairí. The company also received development funding for Longbhriseadh, a show that explores Ireland’s coast, which is littered with tales of shipwrecks, from Armada vessels to World War Two warships and merchant carriers.

Dearcán Media’s Tuilte for TG4, will highlight the human impact of flooding as well as look at the causes for flooding and what can be done to prevent it.

Mná Ghabhla – Boladh Mheiriceá, by LIGID Productions for TG4 will delve into the lives of a group of women who left Gola Island in Donegal in the 1960’s to live and work in New York. The one-hour long documentary will explore the reasons that both groups left the area, the loneliness of moving away, fitting in to a new place, what life was like in New York in the 1960’s and how they kept their ties with Donegal by joining the Donegal society.

In Macha Media’s Uan Uladh for TG4, audiences will delve into the life and legacy of a forgotten figure in Irish history, Una Ní Fhaircheallaigh, one of the most influential Irish women of the 20th Century.

Caoimhe Ní Chathail and Proinsias Ó Coinn will return to our screens for a second series of Waddell Media’s Éadaí SOS for BBC Northern Ireland and TG4 where shopping-obsessed fashionistas will again be challenged to alter their habits and embrace more eco-friendly ways of indulging their passion for the latest trends.

The six-part observational documentary series, Ar An Sliabh, produced by Strident Media for BBC & RTÉ, will return to our screens following the lives of mountain communities – from the slopes of Mount Errigal to the heart of the Glens of Antrim.

RTÉ audiences will also have the pleasure of being reacquainted with the stars of Peataí! in Madraí faoi Ghlas, produced by Big Mountain Productions. This series will see the pet experts lending a hand to pet owners across the country who are on the brink of surrendering their impertinent pets!

Also returning to RTÉJr for a second series is Paper Owl Films, Bóín & Beach, a beautiful animation series which celebrates diversity in nature.

Back for a fourth series on BBC NI is Sonas Productions’ Trad ar Fad. This series will embark on a journey to one of the biggest and most exciting folk festivals in the world, the Lorient Interceltique festival.

Imagine Media will examine the life and times of poet and lyricist Thomas Moore and his Irish Melodies body of work in Thomas Moore, Bard na hÉireann - a one hour long musical hybrid documentary for TG4.

Below the Radar’s online platform Meon Eile will also return for its 11th series.
