Cinemagic 'On The Pulse' Short Film Festival issues call to young filmmakers

Cinemagic 'On The Pulse' Short Film Festival.
After a fully digital edition last year, Cinemagic’s ‘On The Pulse’ Short Film Festival will return to live events and cinema based screenings in 2022 to celebrate its 4th edition.

The Festival, celebrating the short film genre, is funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen.  Cinemagic will present a programme of unmissable films for children, families, schools, young adults and young filmmakers, as well as a film surgery, jury programme and a masterclass and q&a series for aspiring film, television and media creators.

Cinemagic also delighted to announce a new competition element for young filmmakers in this year's 'On the Pulse' programme. The Festival is looking to award a prize for the Best Irish Short Film. The competition is open to Young Filmmakers aged 25 and under from/or living in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

ON THE PULSE

The ‘On the Pulse’ film programme offers a cinematic window to the world presenting a diverse range of storytelling, celebrating universal stories of youth and youth perspectives. The Cinemagic ‘On the Pulse’ selection of short films is multi-genre including documentary, drama, comedy, horror and animation. 

Short Films are invited to enter 'On the Pulse' for the main programme with a specific Call for Entries for Young Filmmaker at 'On the Pulse'. Festival themes will include stories of inclusivity, the world today, young protagonists overcoming challenges, and heart-warming stories of celebration. 

Under 25 year-olds will also have the opportunity to participate in practical workshops, tutorials and q&as which are a must for aspiring creatives. 

Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic CEO said: “Cinemagic ‘On the Pulse’ is designed to motivate, educate and inspire young people from all backgrounds. With funding support from the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, the programme offers a contemporary season of the very best international short films for young audiences as well as showcasing shorts made by local filmmakers.”

“‘On The Pulse’ also illustrates the importance of short filmmaking in the development of practical skills and in the development of sustainable careers in the creative industries and I encourage young creators to get involved in the vast array of opportunities on offer this March,” Keatings added.

The 2022 Programme will be launched in February ‘22 with events taking place between 18th - 31st March in Belfast venues including The Ulster Museum, Queen’s Film Theatre, ODEON Belfast, Black Box Belfast and The Belfast Barge.
