Two days until the submissions deadline for the 21st Kerry International Film Festival

The submissions deadline for the 21st Kerry International Film Festival is fast approaching with applications being accepted no later than Friday, August 20th.

The Festival has previously announced that plans are in place for the festival to go ahead this year with a schedule date of October 15th – 18th, 2020.

Kerry International Film Festival is inviting entries for competition in the following categories:

  • BEST INTERNATIONAL NARRATIVE SHORT
  • BEST IRISH NARRATIVE SHORT
  • BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT
  • BEST STUDENT SHORT
  • BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
  • BEST OF KERRY
  • BEST ANIMATION
  • BEST NARRATIVE FEATURE
  • BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
  • SCRIPT WRITING AWARD - BEST SCRIPT

KIFF has previously featured successful shorts such as the short-listed “Head over Heels” in 2012 and the 2014 Oscar® winner “Mr Hublot” and 2016 Oscar® winner Stutterer.
The Silent Child, which screened at the 2017 festival, won the short narrative film category at the 2018 Oscar® ceremony.

 In 2019, two of the five films nominated at the Academy Awards screened at the 2018 festival, Mother and Detainment. KIFF 2019 also saw the screening of Oscar® nominee Corpus Christi and SXSW winner The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Emerging filmmakers are at the core of the Kerry International Film Festival programme, with the short film competition geared towards showcasing their work and bringing it to a wider audience both at home and throughout a growing network of partner festivals across the globe. KIFF continues its annual collaboration with Kerry County Council, The Arts Council and KETB in screening the successful Kerry Film Bursary winner.

2020 will also see the continuation of the successful scriptwriting strand and reopening of the Best Score category.

Filmmakers will have the chance for their work to be seen by a prestigious panel of adjudicators, which has in recent years included Academy Award Nominated Fodhla Cronin O'Reilly, Academy Award winner Benjamin Cleary, Sundance Grand Jury prize winner, Jim Cummings, Directors Lenny Abrahamson and Paul Greengrass and Producer Finola Dwyer.
