Iconic actor Omar Sharif opened the inaugural Dublin Arabic Film Festival on Thursday May 8th at The Light House Cinema as a generous crowd came out to greet the Lawrence of Arabia star.
Sharif was joined by longtime friend and Festival President, director Jim Sheridan for the opening which was followed by a screening of the actor’s 2003 film Monsieur Ibrahim, which earned him a Cesar Award in France.
The festival, which is a celebration of Arabic film takes place over four days from Thursday May 8– 11th around Dublin city centre venues including The Light House Cinema and the Chester Beatty Library. Highlights of the festival include Sharif’s Oscar winning 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia, Nabil Ayouch’s Horses of God, Hicham Lasri’s They are the Dogs and Mohamed Hamidi’s Homeland.
