Winners of the 2018 WGI ZeBBie Awards Announced
28 Jun 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The winners of the 2018 ZeBBie Awards have been announced following the awards ceremony that took place at the Sugar Club on Wednesday night, June 27th.

The ZeBBie Awards, which were hosted by Senator David Norris were created by the WGI — named in honour of O. Z. Whitehead — to acknowledge the best script(s) written by Irish playwrights and screenwriters during the previous year.

Sharon Horgan picked up the award for ‘Best Television Script’ for her work on Amazon Prime’s hit show ‘Catastrophe’. Conor McPherson's work on BBC series 'Paula' and Paul Walker's final instalment of cop drama 'Red Rock' were also nominated.

Frank Berry’s ‘Michael Inside’ was awarded the ZeBBie for ‘Best Feature Film Script’, which continues the film’s fantastic awards season run that saw it pick up the ‘Best Film’ award at the 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards. Nick Kelly’s ‘The Drummer & the Keeper’ and John Butler’s ‘Handsome Devil’ were also nominated for this award.

The ZeBBie for ‘Best Short Film Script’ was awarded to Niamh Heery’s ‘Pause’, which fended off stiff competition from Tom Collins’ ‘An Béal Bocht’ and Oscar winning short filmmaker Benjamin Cleary’s IFTA winning ‘Wave’.

The nominees for this year's 'Best Short Film Script' included Benjamin Cleary's IFTA winning Short Film 'Wave', Tom Collins 'An Béal Bocht', and Niamh Heery's 'Pause'.

Other winners on the night included Veronica Coburn who picked up ‘Best Radio Script, Iseult Golden & David Horan who won ‘Best Theatre Script’ and Sarah Baylus, John Corcoran, Devin Doyle, Charlene Putney, and Stephen Rooney who won ‘Best Game Script’.

The 2018 ZeBBie Awards Ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 at The Sugar Club, 8 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2
