Shooting for DeLorean Documentary commences in Northern Ireland
02 Oct 2017 : Nathan Griffin
The film will focus on John DeLorean’s personal achievements, his failings and his efforts with the sectarian divide in Northern Ireland at the time of the cars manufacturing.

The documentary, which is directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce has already been acquired by Sundance Selects who bought the rights to the documentary in 2016.

Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, Directors:

“We have interviewed colleagues, employees, lawyers, friends and family who worked with DeLorean in Northern Ireland. We went to a reunion in Belfast last year, filmed on the former test track, and we spoke to management and people who worked in the factory,”

Alec Baldwin who has been casted to play John DeLorean will feature in scripted scenes accompanying documentary footage in an effort to capture the American engneer’s flamboyant personality. Baldwin will be accompanied by his hair and make-up crew that helped transform him into his Donald Trump character on Saturday Night Live in the US.

The documentary also explores whether DeLorean’s decision to employ equal numbers of Catholic and Protestant workers helped to unite communities.

Barrie Wills, a former executive at the car plant and author of John Z, the DeLorean and Me:

“It was made abundantly clear — and we had written terms and conditions of employment that people signed up to — there would be no flags, banners, anything to do with the sectarian divide, I saw Catholics and Protestants beginning to socialise together. Perhaps for the first time it demonstrated you could get the factions working together in harmony.”

The film has begun filming in the original factory in Dunmurry, Co. Antrim and is set for release in 2018.

On DeLorean's and Northern Ireland - Sheena M. Joyce, Director:

“He did everything under a seemingly worst-case scenario and managed to pull it off — at least for a while. The Troubles are the backdrop for our story. There were analogies between what was going on in John’s life, his moral character, and what was going on in Belfast.”

The film is being directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, produced by Tamir Ardon, composed by Brooke Blair and Will Blair, and edited by Demian Fenton

The currently untitled DeLorean documentary is being produced by XYZ Films and is scheduled for release in 2018.
