Mel Gibson and Sean Penn star in the drama which was filmed in Dublin on an eight-week shoot beginning in September 2016.
Directed by Farhad Safinia (Boss), ‘The Professor and the Madman’ is produced by Fastnet Films and Icon International. Pavlovich is a Mexican producer also known for Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ starring Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Brody, and has joined the project as a co-financier and co-producer with international sales agent Voltage Pictures.
The script was co-written by Safinia, Todd Komarnicki (Sully) and Irish talent John Boorman (Queen & Country), based on a 1999 novel from Simon Winchester.
Gibson plays James Murray, who oversaw the compilation of the first Oxford English Dictionary in the 19th century, while Penn portrays Dr. William Chester Minor, an inmate at an asylum for the criminally insane who submitted thousands of entries.
Irish talent involved in the project includes Production Designer Tom Conroy (Mammal) and seven-‘Love & Friendship’ Costume Designer Eimer Ni Mhaoldomhnaigh, with Lorraine Glynn (Brooklyn) also credited as Hair Designer.
The project is one of several Irish titles currently at the European Film Market in Berlin, which began on February 9th and will continue until this Friday, February 17th.
The second Fastnet Films project at the market is ‘The Belly of the Whale’ (Morgan Bushe), with ‘Black ‘47’ from Lance Daly also selling at EFM.
