Acclaimed Irish musical drama ‘Sing Street’, written and directed by John Carney, will be released on Blu Ray, DVD, Digital HD & On Demand from July 26th after an incredibly successful theatrical release worldwide.
The film is about a boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s who escapes his strained family life by starting a band and moving to London and stars newcomer Ferdia Walsh-Peelo alongside Lucy Boynton, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jack Reynor. It was shot in locations in and around Dublin last autumn and wrapped in late October with post-production taking place in Screen Scene.
The film has been a critical hit, earning a very rare 97% on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes with the site’s general consensus reading "Sing Street is a feel-good musical with huge heart and irresistible optimism”.
Positive reviews aside, the Irish film has also been a commercial hit making over $8m worldwide, including over $3m in the US. It was also nominated for eight IFTA Awards, including Best Film with Jack Reynor winning for Best Supporting Actor Film.
‘Sing Street’ is produced by Martina Niland of Cosmo Films, John Carney of Distressed Films and Anthony Bregman. The film was funded by the IFB and Merced Media Partners.
