RTÉ Format Farm extends call out for new ideas for RTÉ2 deadline until July 23
21 Jul 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Successful commissions will be announced in August
RTÉ Format Farm is renewing this year’s call for formats to play mid-week post watershed on RTÉ2 with the Head of RTÉ Global stating that the submissions received earlier this year were not the right fit for the channel.

RTÉ have stated that compelling ideas, great casting and potential talk-ability are key, to ensure the format resonates strongly with the 15 - 34 year old audience. The format must also be able to travel. Submissions are open until Thursday 23rd July 2015 (5pm, strict deadline). Successful commissions will be announced in August 2015.

Speaking about the decision to extend the callout Michelle Spillane, Head of RTÉ Global, said: “We felt the submissions we received earlier this year for RTÉ2 were not the right fit for the channel, so we have decided to invite further ideas from the independent sector. RTÉ2 is dedicated to producing television content for 15 – 34 year old audiences and to those who think young, so ideas need to feel bolder and take more risks than those submitted for RTÉ One. We have two important slots which we are optimistic we’ll be able to fill from the ideas we receive from this call out.”

Format Farm is an established RTÉ business innovation initiative to support the production and broadcast of original TV formats for both Irish audiences and for export. To date Format Farm has delivered original TV formats including ‘The Takeover’, ‘The Hit’ and ‘Who’s Holiday Is It Anyway?’ Irish producers have worked with some of the biggest names in international distribution to generate successful series which features some of the biggest talents in Irish broadcasting.

To submit a new idea, companies will need to go through the e-commissioning process and clearly identify this as a Format Farm submission. All ideas will be reviewed by the relevant Genre Head who will make recommendations to the Channel Controller, RTÉ2. The Channel Controller, RTÉ2 will seek a view from RTÉ Global on the international potential of the recommended ideas.
