RTÉ Calls For Ideas For Format Farm 2013
11 Jan 2013 : By Eva Hall
'The Takeover' received the highest ratings of all Format Farm pilots
RTÉ has announced it is seeking new ideas for its Format Farm scheme for 2013.

The national broadcaster is looking for new ideas for pilot episodes to air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Two, with commissioning editors of RTÉ Two, Entertainment and Lifestyle all participating.

As part of Format Farm 2, RTÉ is holding a briefing day for independent producers on January 16, with the deadline to register TODAY, January 11. At this briefing, representatives from distribution companies such as Warner Bros, Sony, Fremantle and Endemol will be attending.

Please note the January 11 deadline is to register interest for the briefing day only, it is not the submission deadline for the Format Farm scheme. This deadline is February 8.

RTÉ ran the first Format Farm scheme in 2012, where five pilots aired in prime time slots on the channel. These were Toto Productions’ ‘The Takeover’, Waka TV’s ‘Six in the City’, VIP’s ‘The Hit’, Animo’s ‘Baptism of Hire’ and Straywave’s ‘The Love Clinic’.

RTÉ Two commissioning editor Eddie Doyle developed the idea in a bid to find an original Irish TV format that could air internationally as well as domestically. All five pilots had an international distributor on board. Following the success of the first scheme, which saw Sony put ‘The Takeover’ top of its acquisitions list for MIPCOM, RTÉ is now seeking new ideas for new pilots across RTÉ One and RTÉ Two.

The deadline to register interest to attend the briefing day, which will be held at RTÉ Studios on Wednesday January 16, is Friday January 11. To register your interest for the briefing day, email Annemarie Andreasson in the IPU office and mark your email ‘Format Farm Briefing 16th Jan’ (annemarie.andreasson@rte.ie).

The deadline to submit your Format Farm idea is Friday February 8. Ideas must be submitted via RTÉ’s e-commissioning system: e-commissioning.rte.ie.
