A new Irish sitcom ‘A Walk of Snipe’ will enter post production on Tuesday after a successful Dublin shoot on four out of six episodes.

Irish actors Ronan Summers, who has had roles in ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘W’, and ‘Episodes’, Emmet Kirwan, star of TV series ‘Sarah & Steve’, and James Mahon (Hardy Bucks) all star in the independent sitcom.

Shooting got underway in Dublin earlier this year, with directors Jeremy O’Hanlon and Robbie O’Reilly working from a script by Colm Denham and James Mahon. Denham also produced the series, which follows two young Irish men, Sean and Christy, played by Mahon and Kirwan, as they move to London to seek work.

Comedy ensues when they soon realise they cannot get work in the UK either, and embark on a life of scheming and scamming to get by. An elaborate kidnap results in their landlord Mossy (Stephen Doring) stepping in to rescue them, resulting in an unlikely bond forming. This bond soon has dire consequences as Mossy’s unreasonable behaviour worsens throughout the series.

A number of Irish cast and crew are on board, including DoP Daragh McCarthy, Richard O’Connor who worked on sound, Paul Cahill was the camera operator, Claire McGuinness was the production designer and Michelle Curran provided make-up on set.

Liam Heffron (The Inside), Dafydd O’Shea and Oddie Braddle make up the rest of the cast. Producers of ‘A Walk of Snipe’ are currently looking to UK broadcasters for commission.

Frank Kelly’s (Raise My Hands) debut feature film ‘Derelict’ will have its world premiere at this year’s Underground Cinema Festival in Dun Laoghaire on September 16. The feature is currently in post production at The Element, and is scheduled to wrap in three weeks time.

Shot last year, the film is set in a derelict building where the story of a tiger kidnap of a bank manager’s family unfolds. Kelly wrote, directed and is editing the feature, while John Lawlor (3 Minute Gaps) was the DoP with James Mullholland assisting. Richard Quinn and Susan Downey produced, with Mary Ellen Dary on make-up and Keith Ward on stunts. Dermot O’Mahony (140) is composing an original score for the film.

Short film ‘It’s a Wonderful Death’ will also screen at the Underground Cinema Festival, along with feature film ‘Portrait of a Zombie’.

‘It’s a Wonderful Death’, a co-production between Big Salad Productions and SnugBoro Films, was shot in Dublin last May, with Pat Connolly and Paul O’Rourke of Big Salad Productions producing. Liam Upton (Drown) directed, with Niall Mullins the first assistant director and Liisa Siippainen the sound recordist. It follows the life of suicidal Michael, who gets a new lease of life after hearing the world is about to end. Padraic Farrell edited the film in post-production.

‘Portrait of a Zombie’, directed by Irish-born director Bing Bailey, sees a working class Irish family get caught in the middle of a zombie invasion. Laura Morand Bailey and Bing Bailey produced for Organ Hill Films. Eoin Quinn (Limp) stars in both films. The festival runs from September 13-16.

Documentary ‘On Golden Wings’, based on the history of the Irish Air Corps, is now available to purchase on DVD. The four hour-long film documents the beginning of the Air Corps, some of its memorable events, and commemorates its 90-year history. It features a series of interviews with Air Corps employees, with photographic material provided by the Air Corpse photographic section.

Music was provided by the Irish Air Corps Pipe Band and Oakwood Music Ltd. The full proceeds of ‘On Golden Wings’ will go towards helping the Air Corps Museum and Heritage project, and The Cheshire Adventure Motivation Project, which is an Air Corps organisation. The DVD will be available through any of the Messes in Baldonnel or the Irish Air Corps Museum.

Northern Irish digital games company Inlifesize has developed a new app called ‘Fairy Magic’, which is available in the app store now. Established by former Electronic Arts Creative Director, Phil Campbell, and Industrial Light & Magic and Walt Disney Feature Animation alumni Greg Maguire, Inlifesize’s previous credits include games for ‘The Godfather’, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Avatar’ movies.

‘Fairy Magic’ is an augmented reality game which leverages the co-founders’ extensive experience in game design, visual effects and animation. ‘Fairy Magic’ enables the player to use their iPhone, iPod touch or iPad as a lens through which fairies hidden in the world can be found. Players can collect over 50 unique fairies across 7 different fairy clans, discover their names, and play simple games with them.

‘Fairy Magic’ was financed through the Northern Ireland Screen Fund supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The game can be viewed here.
