BSkyB buys Parthenon Media Group in €20m deal…BSkyB has bought Parthenon Media Group in a deal thought to be worth about €20m (£16m) as it looks to build a distribution hub following its growing investment in UK-originated programming.
Shows commissioned by Sky as part of the drive to up its UK content in recent years include ‘Mad Dogs’, ‘Sinbad’ and ‘Starlings’. Parthenon specializes in children's and factual programmes and was set up by ex-Hit executive Carl Hall in 2002, reports Variety.
Venice to premiere new Terrence Malick film…Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To the Wonder’, starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams, is one of a number of major movies set to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. The festival, which runs from August 29 to September 8, will this year host 50 world premieres. They include Brian De Palma’s ‘Passion’ and Harmony Korine’s ‘Spring Breakers’. No Irish titles have yet been announced.
