Element Pictures have announced the Irish DVD and VoD release of ‘Essential Killing’. Directed by Polish Filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski (Deep End, The Shout), it stars Vincent Gallo (Tetro, Buffalo 66) and Emmanuelle Seigner (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly).
It tells the story of Mohammed, a man captured by the U.S. military in Afghanistan and transported to a secret detention centre in Europe. When the vehicle he is in crashes, he finds himself on the run and vying for survival in a snow-blanketed forest. Far away from the desert home he knew in Afghanistan, Mohammed is forced into extreme survival mode and must face killing everyone who strays into his path. The Irish/Polish/Norwegian/Hungarian co-production was partly funded by the Irish Film Board and was shot in Israel, Poland and Norway with the sound post-production carried out in Ireland at Ardmore Sound by Alan Collins and Fiadhnait McCann.
The script was written by Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska, and produced by Skopia Film in co-production with Ireland’s Element Pictures. Executive producers on the project were Andrew Lowe and Ed Guiney of Element Pictures. It has been awarded many prizes on the festival circuit including Special Jury Prize at the 67th Venice Film Festival with Vincent Gallo winning the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor for his performance in ‘Essential Killing’.
The film will be released by Element Pictures Distribution on DVD and VoD on July 29th with a 15 certificate.
