A busy weekend of Irish content saw the national broadcast record the highest viewing figures of the year thus far as almost 950,000 tuned in to see Tyrone beat Mayo in the All-Ireland Final.
An average of 940,400 viewers tune in to The Saturday Game Live on RTÉ2 to watch the conclusion to this year’s GAA football Championship. 75% of those watching TV at the time were looking at The All-Ireland Final with viewing peaking at 1,064,800 at the end of the game. In addition, there were 149,000 streams of the game on RTÉ Player.
Later that evening, RTÉ debuted the highly anticipated first offering of Irish crime drama series Kin, which got off to a strong start with an average audience of 500,600 (live + vosdal).
Kin proved a particular hit with younger audiences, attracting a 50% share of Adults 25-44, while a further 40,500 watched on RTÉ+1 last night. The show also already has 17,000 streams on the RTÉ Player since it aired.
Filmed in Dublin, Kin features British actor Charlie Cox (Daredevil; The Theory of Everything) alongisde an exciting cast of Irish actors including Clare Dunne (Herself), Aidan Gillen (The Wire), Ciarán Hinds (The Woman in Black), Sam Keeley (Anthropoid), Emmett Scanlan (Peaky Blinders), Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors), and newcomer Tasmin Seky.
Directed by Diarmuid Goggins and Tessa Hoffe, written by Ciaran Donnelly and Peter McKenna, Kin follows the lives of the fictional Dublin family the Kinsellas. When a boy is killed, his family embark on a gangland war with an international cartel. The Kinsellas find themselves outnumbered and outgunned, but they have something the cartel does not, the unbreakable bond of blood and family.
The eight-part series is produced by Vikings and Tudors producers Morgan O’Sullivan and James Flynn through their Metropolitan Films banner, and has secured sales deals with international streaming service AMC+.
The second episode of Kin airs this Sunday at 9:30pm on RTÉ One.
