‘Kubrick by Candlelight’ Wins Best Film at Waterford Film Festival
08 Nov 2017 :
Having been awarded the Film Offaly/Filmbase Bursary in 2016, David O’Reilly (Writer/Director) and Vinnie Jassal (Producer) have had an extremely successful few months culminating in a win for ‘Best Short Film’ at the Waterford Film Festival.

‘Kubrick by Candlelight’ has also been nominated for ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Film’, and won ‘Best Cinematography’ at the Richard Harris International Film Festival, as well as being nominated for ‘Best Irish Narrative’ at the Kerry Film Festival.

Speaking with IFTN David O’Reilly, Writer/Director said:

“I’m incredibly honoured to receive this prestigious award and would first like to congratulate all of the other talent filmmakers who made such brilliant films. Secondly I would like to thank all of the Irish and UK crew and cast that worked hard at every level to make Kubrick by Candlelight a reality.”

“Thanks must be extended to the judges but also to Stephen Bryne and his team for making us very welcome. To win the Best Film Award here in Waterford – where Barry Lyndon was principally filmed back in 1973 is such a magical moment for us. Whilst we shot all of the film in Offaly, Waterford is very much part of our story and the opening shot features the terrific and dynamic landscape of Glenpatrick which we were lucky enough to visit on our trip to Waterford.”

‘Kubrick by Candlelight’ is a light hearted romantic comedy set behind the scenes of the filming in Ireland in 1973 of Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

It was the recipient of the Film Offaly/ Filmbase Bursary 2016.

Darragh O’Toole (South, Red Rock), Amy Hughes (Vikings), Phelim Drew (Angela’s Ashes, My Left Foot) join newcomers Mark Lawrence as Mark Thornton and Michael Thomas Nolan as Stanley Kubrick. Other members of the cast include impressionist Al Foran as Mick Molloy, Mark Webb (Colour Me Kubrick), Lisa Moore and Alan Curran. The film is narrated by actor Brian Cox (Manhunter, Churchill, Braveheart).
