IFTA Awards Focus: MAC Make Up & Hair

Nominated projects this year are ‘Sing Street’, ‘An Klondike’, ‘Vikings’ and ‘Brooklyn’
We continue our countdown to the 2015 IFTA Film & Drama Awards on April 9th with a look at the eminent nominees of the MAC Make Up & Hair category with nominated projects including ‘An Klondike’, ‘Brooklyn’, ‘Sing Street’ and ‘Vikings’.

Receiving their first nominations this year for acclaimed Irish language drama series ‘An Klondike’ are Ailbhe Fitzpatrick and Stephanie Smith.

Fitzpatrick has been making a name for herself in Irish language dramas over the last few years. Aside from ‘An Klondike’, recent credits of hers include ‘Éirí Amach Amú’ and the upcoming ‘Fir Bolg’. She also worked on Corin Hardy’s acclaimed horror film ‘The Hallow’ – which was released to cinemas last year.

Previous credits of Smith’s include Hollywood films such as ‘Trance’, ‘World War Z’, ‘Exodus: Gods & Kings’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Jupiter Ascending’ while Irish credits include the horror films ‘Let Us Prey’ and ‘Cherry Tree’. Upcoming projects include ‘P.O.V - Dennis Bartok’s directorial debut which shot in Dublin last year.

Recognized for the Oscar-nominated film ‘Brooklyn’ are Lorraine Glynn and Morna Ferguson.

Ferguson has previously won an IFTA Award for her work on the television mini-series ‘The Take’ and garnered five other nominations for ‘Loving Miss Hatto’, ‘My Boy Jack’, ‘Middletown’, ‘Laws Of Attraction’ and ‘Jimi: All is By My Side’. Her acclaimed work in ‘My Boy Jack’ was also honoured with a BAFTA Award in 2008 while other notable credits include ‘The Guard’, ‘What Richard Did’ and ‘Calvary’ (all of which won the Best Film IFTA).

Lorraine Glynn, Ferguson’s co-nominee for ‘Brooklyn’, is also an IFTA-winner having won for the film ‘Albert Nobbs’ in 2012. She was also nominated the same year for her work on ‘Neverland’ and she received a nomination last year for ‘Jimi: All is By My Side’. Other credits of Glynn’s include ‘Intermission’, ‘Bloody Sunday’, ‘Ordinary Decent Criminal’ and ‘Breakfast On Pluto’. She has also Jim Sheridan’s ‘The Secret Scripture, which will be released later in the year.

Nominated for ‘Sing Street’ are Sandra Kelly and Barbara Conway.

Kelly’s previous credits include major television series such as ‘Love is the Drug’, ‘Love/Hate’, ‘Primeval’, ‘Raw’ and ‘Charlie. She has also worked on Lenny Abrahamson’s television series ‘Prosperity’, which earned her an IFTA nomination in 2008. Previous film credits include ‘Becoming Jane’, ‘King Arthur’ and ‘On The Nose’.

Barbara Conway has previously been nominated for two IFTA Awards; in 2006 for ‘The Halo Effect’ and in 2010 for ‘Zonad’ (also directed by ‘Sing Street’ director John Carney). Other film credits include Jerzy Skolimowski's ‘Essential Killing’ ‘Cre ne Cille’ ‘Botched’ and ‘Once’.

Nominated for ‘Vikings’ are Tom McInerney and Dee Corcoran, last year’s winners in this category for the same project.

Tom McInerney has been nominated for five IFTA Awards in the past – for ‘Titanic: Blood and Steel’, ‘Camelot’, ‘Prosperity’ and ‘Adam And Paul’. Aside from his 2015 win, McInerney also won the award in 2011 for ‘The Tudors’. He has also worked on ‘Savage’, ‘Garage’, Wild Decembers’ and ‘Traders’ which was released to Irish cinemas this year.

Dee Corcoran is celebrating a massive eleven nominations this year. She has went home with the award on four occasions – twice for ‘The Tudors’, once for ‘King Arthur’ and once for ‘Vikings’. She has also received two Primetime Emmy nominations for her work on ‘The Tudors’ and other credits of hers include ‘Leap Year’, ‘Veronica Guerin’, ‘Camelot’, ‘Tara Road’ and ‘The Butcher Boy’.
