Virgin Media Television launches new documentary and entertainment initiative
18 May 2021 : News Desk
Virgin Media Television.
As part of Virgin Media Television’s new initiative, the broadcaster is seeking submissions for brand new factual documentary series and exciting factual entertainment formats for the 2022/2023 schedule.

Virgin is looking for gripping and compelling stories, which reflect modern society and capture a diverse, contemporary Ireland through a lens that has not yet been seen.

Virgin Media Television’s strategy of supporting and developing Irish drama of the highest quality with international ambition, has enjoyed great success. They have previously partnered with some of the most prominent names in drama: ITV, BBC, Channel 5, Netflix, Freemantle, and All3Media.

Virgin original dramas such as Blood have previously won international acclaim and awards from IFTAs to Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Award, and have been sold to more than 80 territories worldwide.

“We’re not afraid of difficult topics but we look for the light at the end of the tunnel,” the VMTV initiative outlines. “Our hardest-hitting shows still have room for hope and optimism, but they have to take viewers somewhere they haven’t been before. Of particular interest are returnable ‘brand-defining’ factual entertainment formats and factual series, with noisy and topical ideas in hour-long, post-watershed slots.”

Virgin is looking for informative, entertaining programming with broad appeal, but an innovative and cutting-edge twist and ideas that reflect aspects of life in contemporary Ireland.  “We are interested in unique access opportunities exemplified in a series such as The Guards: Inside the K, which highlight places, people and organisations that are fixtures of Irish life.”

“We also want to champion original Irish formats that can capture contemporary Irish life but also appeal to viewers all over the world, such as Eating with the Enemy. With this in mind, we are open to talent suggestions, whether they are well known already, or dynamic new faces with something interesting to say.”

“We are particularly interested in projects that take a ‘digital first’ approach and present innovative and creative opportunities to engage a wider audience across platforms. For those submitting ideas, a track record of great casting and confident storytelling is essential.”

The deadline for submissions to this initiative are expected on or before Friday June 18th, 2021.

All applications should be submitted through the Commissioning Portal.
