Gréasán na Meán Skillnet announces slate of online courses for July and August

The new slate of online courses is part of Gréasán Na Meán Skillnet’s support for the media industry in Ireland, with a particular focus on the West of Ireland.

Three new courses with Director John FD Northover have been confirmed to take place in July and August. Northover is one of the UK and Ireland’s most innovative and experienced directors, who has helped devise some of the nations’ most popular television. In 2015, John was awarded the Emmy for best director of a live or recorded live programme.  Uniquely creative with a deep understanding of format and content this BAFTA award-winning director, although rooted in entertainment and comedy, is at home equally in factual, factual entertainment, lifestyle, or live event. The three courses available include:

  • Shot Calling and Bar Counting: 29th June - 3rd July
  • Write & Present your Best TV Self: 13th - 17th July
  • Multi-Camera Directing: 10th - 20th August 2020

Four Adobe courses in Premiere Pro and After Effects will also be available with Keith Bailey of Taught Media, at the subsidised rate of €100 per course: 

  • Premiere Pro Training Level 1: 1st - 3rd July 
  • Premiere Pro Training Level 2: 16th & 17th July 
  • After Effects Training Level 1: 20th - 22nd July 
  • After Effects Training Level 2: 27th - 29th July 

Premiere Pro CC2020 Level One

This three-day course suits both new and existing users Premiere Pro. It is also suitable for cross-skilling Final Cut Pro and Avid editors. This certified Adobe course journeys through all post-production features available Premiere Pro.

Trainees will learn a methodical approach to setting up and working with Premiere Pro video projects. The hands-on training works end-to-end on a short promotional piece to provide understanding of the software and, ultimately, to import, preview, mark, and edit clips to the timeline efficiently. The piece is finished appropriately with sound effects, music, and the audio mixing thereof. This is a comprehensive feature tour of Premiere Pro covering ingest through to export guided by all-Ireland’s only Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro and After Effects. All attendees will receive a personalised Adobe Certificate of Completion.

Premiere Pro CC2020 Level Two

This two-day course suits users of Premiere Pro who have completed Level One training. Training is targeted at the more professional and advanced features of Premiere Pro including media management and colour correction and grading.

Day One ensures attendees follow best practice for ingesting card-based media for the purposes of editing and creating proxies. The creation of Merged Clips with be demonstrated to deal with separately recorded audio. Advanced editing techniques are shown including replacement of footage, nesting, asymmetric trimming, and speed changes. The day concludes with a thorough look at the Motion Effects, effect ordering, and preset creation.

Day Two visits the Essential Graphics panel and the creation of animated titling within Premiere Pro. Links to Motion Graphic Templates as created in After Effects are discussed. Captions (Closed and Open) and online transcription services that work with and within Premiere Pro are demonstrated. The creation of transparency by masking or keying is covered. Primary and secondary colour correction is conducted with a close look at the Lumetri Scopes. Project management and archiving is the closing topic. Training is guided by all-Ireland’s only Adobe Certified Instructor for Premiere Pro and After Effects. All attendees will receive a named and dated Adobe Certificate of Completion.

After Effects CC2020 Level One

This certified three-day course suits beginners and self-taught users of After Effects alike. It is an introductory tour through all the features and toolsets of After Effects CC2020 required for layer-based animation to produce motion graphic explainers containing text, video, and image assets.

Guided by the only Adobe Certified Instructor for After Effects in all-Ireland, this course will follow the official Adobe syllabus. Attendees will also become comfortable exploring the connections from After Effects to other Creative Cloud products such as Premiere Pro, Media Encoder Photoshop, and Illustrator.

After Effects CC2020 Level Two

This certified three-day course suits Level One trained and experienced After Effects alike. It is an exploration of intermediate and advanced features and toolsets in After Effects CC2020.

Guided by the only Adobe Certified Instructor for After Effects in all-Ireland, this course aims to demonstrate methods of advance compositing that combine action video with graphic elements. It also demonstrates the power of the Essential Graphics panel for templating animated title sets for Premiere Pro. The course concludes with sessions on 3D scene manipulations and the 3D camera tracking.
