Creative Digital Media Production Level 5
Students will be exposed to the radio, film and photography processes and procedures; used by digital media studios today in program making. Learners will gain practical knowledge of how different media products are produced, as well as an understanding of how the relationships between producer, financing and the audience impact on one another.

TV and Digital Film Production
Students will acquire practical skills in both Film and Television Production, including single camera production, non-linear film and video editing. Through the study of Media Analysis, learners gain knowledge of how the relationship between the producer, the advertiser and the audience impact on one another. These skills will be evidenced in a portfolio of work including Film, Scriptwriting and Photography.

Advanced TV and Digital Film Production
Students will gain highly practical skills in a range of techniques used in today’s TV and digital film industry. Areas covered include: drama, documentary news packages and single camera interviews. Graduates have received offers of direct entry to second year in the BA in Film and TV in IADT, and offers of both second and third year advanced entry in the BA in Film Broadcasting in DKIT.

Journalism for the Digital Age
In this course, all aspects of the industry will be studied including, making contacts, interviewing and the craft of writing. Social media and traditional sources will be used to find and publish news. Learners will attain the know-how to get published in print and online.

Radio Broadcasting/Advanced Certificate in Radio Broadcasting
Radio is a dynamic and rapidly changing field of modern media production, and these courses have been designed to give learners the latest skill, and experience to begin a career in this exciting area. Learn what it takes to become a radio presenter through the production of a range of radio items including news bulletins, interviews, jingles, location recordings and documentaries. Guided by experienced radio presenters and producers, learners will gain direct programme making experience in a comtemporary digital environment, and learners will become part of the team that runs The Wave, the DFEi college radio station.

Sound Production
Learners will record performers and musicians in an all iMac digital sound production facility, fully equipped with a comprehensive selection of state-of-the-art equipment. Learners will also gain practical experience setting up sound facilities for live performances and location recording. The course is an excellent foundation for progression to the HND in Music Production at DFEi.

Higher National Diploma in Music Production
This two year Higher National Diploma course gives learners the opportunity to acquire a wide range of skills in Sound Engineering, Music Production and other aspects of the music industry such as running a music business, understanding the science of sound, legal and health issues. Taught by professionals working in the industry, this course will prepare learners for careers in the media, entertainment and music fields. All workstations are equipped with software including Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Reason.

What opportunities and facilities are available to DFEi students?
The courses at Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute are very practical. Students will develop personal portfolios which can be used to gain employment in the television and film industry or to progress to higher education institutes. Student’s group projects emulate situations in the real-world TV, film and radio industries, giving them great hands-on experience. Students have access to dedicated Radio, Photographic, TV and Sound Engineering studios equipped with the latest technologies, which they will use to complete their group projects.
