Young Women in Film & TV Masterclass, IADT
Ireland’s National Film School, IADT will deliver a ‘Young Women in Film & TV’ masterclass for Transition Year students.

As part of the national strategy to ensure the growth of women working in the film industry, The National Film School, in partnership with Young Irish Film Makers, brings Stephanie Preissner, Scriptwriter of ‘Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope’ and Neasa Hardiman who has worked with Amazon, BBC, Channel Four, ITV and RTE to IADT for this masterclass.

IFTN this afternoon spoke with Ruth Barry, IADT Head of Marketing who said “Stephanie Preissner was incredible today! It’s the first time IADT has run an event like this so we just have a small group of 24, but there has been such a huge demand for it. We already have names on a waiting list. So yes, we absolutely hope to bring a similar event like this back again.”

Other guest speakers on the line up for the’ Young Women in Film & TV’ masterclass include, experts in the fields of writing, directing, editing, directing of photography, producing and sound engineering. Jean Rice, Mary Kate O Flanagan, Rachel Lysaght, Fiadhnait McCann, Cara Holmes, Niamh Moroney and Deirdre O’Toole.

Over an action-packed, hands-on three days, the transition year teenagers will undertake workshops, talks and projects to give them an inside look at all aspects of working in Film and TV.

Working in IADT’s state-of-the-art facilities, they will be guided through the process of scriptwriting, the technicalities of cameras, sound equipment, computers and editing software, culminating in the creation of their own short film.

The Institute of Art, Design and Technology in Dun Laoghaire, have said that they are very excited to be working alongside Young Irish Film Makers to help transition year students explore their love of film.

“It is so important that we get more women involved in the film and television industry, to ensure women’s voices are heard and women’s stories are told. Education and early intervention is essential if we want to make a difference for the future so I would like to commend IADT on the development of this programme aimed at young women interested in film.” says Heather Humphreys, T.D. Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

The National Film School, IADT and Young Irish Film Makers developed this programme, with funding support from Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Arts office, in order to address the issue of equal access for young women and to encourage equality in the Irish film & television industry.

The 3-day masterclass starts today and continues on the 11th and 12th November.
