‘Misfits’ Actor Joe Gilgun in Dublin for ‘Ripper Street’
17 Apr 2012 : By Eva Hall
Joe Gilgun in Lockout
‘Misfits’ star Joe Gilgun has revealed he has been in Dublin to film scenes for BBC One thriller ‘Ripper Street’. Fresh from his performance in ‘Lockout’, the sci-fi adventure written by Irish duo Stephen St. Leger and James Mather, the actor has said he has landed a “guest lead role” on the Jack the Ripper-based drama, which is currently filming in Clancy Barracks in Dublin, and stars ‘Pride and Prejudice’ actor Matthew Macfadyen and ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Jerome Flynn.

Gilgun shot to fame with his role as Woody in Shane Meadows’ harrowing drama ‘This is England’, set in recession-stricken England in the 80’s. He replaced Irish actor Robert Sheehan in E4’s supernatural drama ‘Misfits’, taking on the role of Rudy. He also previously played Eli, a member of the infamous Dingle Family, in TV3 soap ‘Emmerdale’.

Gilgun revealed details of his ‘Ripper Street’ involvement in an interview with UK magazine SFX. He said of his role: “I’m bloody thrilled with it. It’s just such a bloody great job.”

Dublin’s Element Pictures are co-producing the eight-part series with Tiger Aspect Productions. Two Irish post production houses have secured post production on ‘Ripper Street’; Screen Scene will look after all things VFX while Egg will take care of all offline, online, full audio post and grading.

‘Ripper Street’ is expected to film until July, with an air date scheduled for BBC One this Autumn.
