Cork Screen Commission Supports 'The Blow-ins'
15 Nov 2011 :
The Blow Ins
Irish independent production company, The Story Factory, has received funding from Cork County Council for it’s new short film ‘The Blow-ins’ with the help of the newly launched Cork Screen Commission (CSC).

‘The Blow-ins’ is a supernatural comedy with a rockabilly feel written and directed by CJ Scuffins. The short centres around mother of one Lorraine Egan, played by Jill Sartini (Prodigal Son), an inner city Dubliner whose father always used to tell her stories about being out at sea as a sea rescuer. After his death, Lorraine returns to Courtmacsherry with her daughter to bury him, only to discover that he was never at sea. In order to re-establish her family’s good name Lorraine, who usually drives a Ford Mustang, moves from Dublin to the town with her daughter and joins the sea rescuers service only to be met with strange incidents.

Principal photography was completed in South West Cork this September with Director of Photography Ian D. Murphy (Pilgrim Hill) shooting the film on a RED camera. The film was shot on location in Courtmacsherry and Kilbrittain. Also starring in the short is first time actress, ten year old, Ellen Phelan, who plays Lorraine’s daughter Hailey, Kat Devine, Mark Shrier (Sex in the City), Dermot Ward (Pure Mule, Lassie) and Victor Feldman (Sometimes People…) as Arthur Egan.

The short was produced by Raymond McSweeney and co produced by lead actress Jill Sartini. "We are proud to have one of the first projects to receive funding through this new initiative,” said McSweeney, “It will now enable Story Factory to promote and distribute The Blow-Ins both nationally and on the international festival circuit."

The film is currently in post-production at Story Factory in Dublin and it is hoped that ‘The Blow-ins’ will be released on the film festival circuit in early 2012.
