 1,800 Jobs Axed At BBC, 100+ for BBCNI
BBC Director General Mark Thompson has confirmed net redundancies of 1,800 people at the UK broadcaster. Approved by the BBC Trust, the six year strategy proposed by Mr Thompson attempts to deal with a £2bn budget shortfall caused by a smaller licence fee settlement. more
 IFB Opens 2007 Intl. Fiction Production Fund
The Irish Film Board is now accepting applications for the 2007 Fiction Production International Fund. The fund aims to ensure the continuation of international production in Ireland, by encouraging larger mobile international film and television projects to locate here. more
 BCI Opens Fifth Sound & Vision Funding Round
The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has announced details of the fifth funding round of Sound & Vision, the Broadcasting Funding Scheme, for television. The closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon Wednesday 28th November 2007. more

The Works Acquires Rights For ‘Closing The Ring’
Independent film distributor, The Works, has acquired the UK and Ireland rights to Richard Attenborough’s ‘Closing The Ring’, a film shot and produced in Northern Ireland. The romantic drama is set for release on 28 December 2007 and will be the first for the company’s new Head of Irish Distribution Mervyn Andrews. more

Filmbase & TG4 Lasair Award Doubles Funding
The 4th round of Filmbase and TG4’s ‘Lasair’, the award scheme for short films made in the Irish language, is now open for entries with a deadline of 19 November 2007. This year up to six films will be produced with €120,000 of funding available - double last year’s amount. more
