The finalists of RTÉ’s Storyland competition have been announced, with ‘Student Teacher’, ‘The Begrudgers’ and ‘Trouble Times Three’ left battling it out for the top prize.
‘Hysteria’, a Sixsem production Company production, received the fewest amount of votes in the last round, and will not progress to the final round. The production company still has a two out of three chance of snatching the Storyland 2012 title however, as remaining dramas ‘The Begrudgers’ and ‘Trouble Times Three’ are Sixsem productions.
'The Begrudgers' is a comedy centered around Nobby, played by Shane Carroll (Murder on Main Street), and Snout, played by Ray Fitzsimons (Flat Lake), who spend their days begrudging matters for no particular reason. John McKeown, Aine Corby and Jessica Duggan produced. Philip Doherty (The Drunk Ouija Board) wrote the script while Finn Keenan was director of photography.
'Trouble Times Three' is a drama centered around a man named Scott, played by Declan Reynolds (Lose the Booze), who is struggling to come to terms with the fact he got three different women pregnant all at the same time. John McKeown is producer on the project, with Eoin Cleland (Free House) directing. Both men contributed to the script along with Declan Reynolds.
'Student Teacher' is a comedy about a young man named Conor who completed his Leaving Cert early and glided on to college, only to find himself back in his old secondary school teaching his former classmates. Giles Brody (Life Coach) wrote and directed the webisodes, with Rory Walsh of Spire Digital in Galway and Damon Blake producing. Cormac Walsh was director photography.
Voting for the penultimate round of Storyland opened on April 23, when the four semi-finalists showed their third webisode to their online audiences. Voting will reopen on May 28, with the eventual winner being announced on June 5.
