‘Hotel Darklight’ - DIY Filmmaking Project to Screen
26 Nov 2009 :
‘Hotel Darklight’ is to receive an IFI screening on December 13th. The feature film is the result of a DIY project that ran as part of this year’s Darklight Festival where filmmakers were asked to submit ideas for a 3 - 7 minute short film set in a mysterious Dublin hotel with a twilight zone-esque atmosphere.

80 submissions were received by the project’s producer Declan Lynch (Dublin: The Movie) and co-producer Alan Keane (writer, Roy) and these were whittled down to the ten projects which were all filmed over six days and which will now be screened together in the form of a feature film in the Irish Film Institute on Sunday, December 13th at 1.00pm.

‘Hotel Darklight’s co-producer, Alan Keane, told IFTN the project was thought up of as a result of financial resources but a wave of goodwill and an invitation from a Dublin hotel to make use of its facilities. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with several of the filmmakers and tickets are priced at €15. The proceeds of the screening will help offset debts incurred by filmmakers and by the Darklight festival in the making of the film.

The ten projects featured as part of the collaborative feature film are ‘Lonely Hearts’, written and directed by Ciaran Foy; ‘Hotel Training’, written by Maura McHugh and directed by Conor McMahon; ‘Prejudice’, written and directed by Paul Walker; ‘St. Mary’, written by Gerry Creehan and Paul Markey and directed by Brian O'Toole; ‘Play Dead’ written and directed by James Phelan; ‘Heaven in a Wildflower’, written by Sinead Fagan and directed by Dolores Rice; ‘Regards to the Chef’, written by Eilis Mernagh and directed by Kian Petit and Ewan Petit; ‘Noughts and Crosses’, written by Barry McLoughlin and directed by Alan Brennan; ‘You Beta Your Bollix’, written by T.C Director and directed by Ian Whelan and ‘Better the Derval you Know’ written by Paul Markey and directed by Brian O'Toole.

The screening of ‘Hotel Darklight’ will take place on Sunday, December 13th at 1.00pm in the Irish Film Institute. For more information about the event and for ticket information click here.
