John Moore, director of ‘Max Payne’ and ‘Behind Enemy Lines’, is connecting with his Dundalk roots by opening up the set of his latest film to Dundalk Institute of Technology student Blaine Rennicks for two weeks.
Rennicks, a fourth year student on the BA (Hons) in Video and Film Production, won a DKIT competition to intern on the set of Moore’s upcoming ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’, the fifth instalment in the ‘Die Hard’ series, which is currently shooting on location in Budapest.
Rennicks flew out to Budapest yesterday (June 18) to join Moore and the rest of the ‘Die Hard’ crew. He won the internship after submitting showreels of his college work, as well as an essay, at Moore’s request, on the issue of political complacency and the spread of social media. Rennicks was chosen as the winner over 12 of his fellow students.
Bruce Willis will reprise his role as John McClane in the film, in what is expected to be the final instalment in the ‘Die Hard’ franchise. Australian actor Jai Courtney (Spartacus: Blood and Sand) will play John ‘Jack’ McClane Junior.
Stephen J Eads, who previously worked on a number of Bruce Willis films, such as ‘Armageddon’ and ‘The Sixth Sense’, will produce.
Moore was born in Dundalk in Co Louth, and studied Media Arts at DIT before going on to produce many of his own short films. He has since directed/produced some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters in the last 10 years, including ‘Behind Enemy Lines’, which starred Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman, which landed at the box office number two in 2001. In recent months Moore has formed a creative relationship with DKIT and its film students.
‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ is due for release in Ireland on February 14 2013.
