Limerick City
Ireland has won the bid to host the 46th Annual Cineposium Conference, which will be hosted in Limerick.

This is the first time in the ACFI’s 46 year history that the event will take place in Ireland. Previous hosts include the US, France, and South Korea. The bid to host the event was open to all ACFI film commission members and won by Film in Limerick, a project developed by Innovate Limerick to cater for the growing film industry in the region.

“Limerick winning this bid is a significant recognition of Ireland’s position as a world-class location for film production, both in terms of the range of talent and skilled crew and craftspeople available across the country, as well as our country’s renowned landscapes and diverse locations,” Désirée Finnegan, Chief Executive of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, said of Film in Limerick winning ACFI’s bid.

Minister Catherine Martin, T.D. announced from Los Angeles that the event will take place in Limerick in late September of this year. The announcement comes as part of her trade mission in the US to boost Ireland's film industry, tourism, and culture.

“This is an excellent opportunity to build on the current wave of success that is happening across the screen industry, and to further strengthen our partnerships with international production companies and studios around the world,” Minister Martin said.

The conference is an opportunity to showcase Limerick and the west coast of Ireland to major studio executives from around the globe, as industry leaders meet to discuss policy, economic development and screen production. This follows several international productions being shot in Ireland, including IFTA-nominated The Banshees of Inisherin, Disney’s Disenchanted, and Universal’s Cocaine Bear.

Jaclyn Philpott, Executive Director of the AFCI, said: “Screen Ireland joined AFCI in June, 2018.  Their office has consistently exemplified leadership in sustainability, workforce development programs and providing production support for filmmakers and content creators filming in the country, as well as being an active and valued member of AFCI. I’m enthusiastic that Ireland has been selected to host Cineposium, where a diverse mix of screen sector professionals will merge to  learn, build connections and explore new methods of collaboration.”

Founded in 1975, AFCI provides advocacy, connectivity and education for film commissions and businesses in the screen sector to foster economic growth in a sustainable and socially diverse manner world-wide.
