Screen Skills Ireland and TU Dublin announce Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Producing

Screen Skills Ireland
Screen Skills Ireland has announced that the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Producing is now open for applications via Springboard+.

This course has been developed by Screen Skills Ireland, the skills development unit within Screen Ireland, in partnership with TU Dublin.

The course is aimed at new producers and will be delivered by key industry specialists. It is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the script to screen process, with the modules structured to build the skills necessary for market-ready producers. These include the development process; financing; legal issues; budgeting and scheduling; production; post-production; management and negotiation skills; sales and distribution; festivals/markets and pitching.

Graduates of the programme will emerge having gained the skills, confidence, and connections to navigate the international film and TV industry, either in established companies or independently in their own companies.

The Postgraduate Diploma will build on the success of last year’s programme, which saw 15 up-and-coming producers improve their skills in all aspects of producing, including preparing for pitching in key film and TV markets, such as the prestigious European Film Market in Berlin.

Speaking about the 2019 programme, participant Evan Horan of Blinder Films said:

“Taking part in the Advanced Producing Programme has most certainly been a very worthwhile and positive experience in terms of my career development as it has given me a surge of confidence in my own abilities as a producer – as well as being incredibly informative over the course’s various modules in developing a greater understanding of the script to screen process. With weekly industry experts acting as guest speakers, pitching workshops and studio visits, the course effectively offers a hands-on approach in building the necessary skills to become a market-ready producer. Since finishing the programme, the project I had applied as a case study to the course has also been awarded development funding.”

Kathy Raftery, who also took part in the 2019 programme, added:

“As an independent producer/director I can’t recommend this course highly enough. It was great to have the opportunity to gain insights directly from such experienced industry experts and the support we received to prepare us for attending the European Film Market at Berlinale this year was invaluable.”

The start date for the programme is 5th October 2020 and is provisionally scheduled to run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The deadline for applications is 30th August.
