The scheme provides training opportunities in varied roles in the film and television industry between May 2019 – March 2020.
Northern Ireland Screen is running a skills development scheme called ‘Production, Craft and Technical Skills 2019’, a paid placement scheme which provides participants with an opportunity to gain experience on Northern Ireland Screen funded film and television projects.
Previous experience is not essential, however, applicants MUST in their application letter, demonstrate they have a willingness to learn, ability to work under pressure and are self-motivated.
The following positions are being sought as a part of the scheme:
- 1 x Costume Trainee
- 1 x Make-up Trainee
- 1 x Production Trainee
- 1 x Assistant Director Trainee
- 1 x Art Department Trainee
- 1 x Set Decoration Trainee
- 1 x Props Trainee
Where is it based?
The scheme and placements will be based in Northern Ireland and participants will be expected to base themselves in Northern Ireland for the duration of the scheme.
Who is eligible to apply?
You are eligible to apply if you can answer YES to these two questions:
- Are you eligible to work and currently reside in Northern Ireland?
- Are you available to participate in the scheme from May 2019 – March 2020.
If you cannot answer YES to these two questions, please do not apply. Ineligible applications will be automatically discarded.
Applications from individuals from under-represented groups are particularly welcome.
What are the priorities?
Priorities will be given to applicants who can demonstrate a long-term commitment to working in the film and television industry. Experience working in a professional filming environment and familiarity with the processes of production and set etiquette would be desirable but not essential.
How do I apply?
To apply to the Production, Craft and Technical Skills 2019, applicants must submit the following via Northern Ireland Screen’s online application form, where you will be asked to complete:
- Job History.
- Education.
- A paragraph of a maximum of 700 words confirming that you meet the eligibility requirements of the scheme, your aims for the future and how this scheme would help you achieve them.
- Details of two referees.

How will applications be assessed?
Representatives of Northern Ireland Screen will assess your application based on the following criteria:
- The information contained within the applicant’s paragraph confirming that they meet the eligibility requirements.
- Strength of job history and references from referees.
- Suitability of the scheme for the applicant, i.e. how the individual’s career will benefit from ‘Production, Craft & Technical Skills 2019’.
- In the event of a high number of applications being received the desirable criteria will be used to shortlist for interview.
