Films Boutique has sold Irish co-produced documentary ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ to StudioCanal for UK distribution.
Pieter-Jan De Pue’s documentary ‘The Land of the Enlightened’ which was produced by Irish producer Morgan Bushe for Fastnet Films, charts the complex Afghani war economy told through the eyes of the children who have found themselves caught up in the on-going American occupation.
The film has so far screened at Sundance (where it won an award for Best Cinematography) as well as Rotterdam last month. The film has been acclaimed by major US publications such as Screen International who described the film as “hypnotic, playful and chillingly austere”. The reviewer goes on to state that the film is a “logistical triumph” in capturing plenty of “visual magic” in difficult conditions.
The documentary has previously been sold in North America, Benelux and Poland and is expected to pick up more sales when it screens at the European Film Market at Berlinale later in the week. Stay tuned to IFTN for more updates.
Wildcard Distribution are expected to release 'The Land of the Enlightened' to Irish cinemas later in the year. Check out the trailer below:
