Northern Ireland Screen has announced the decisions from its Short Film Call, Access Shorts scheme and Shorts to Features scheme. A total of 16 awards have been made.
Short Film Call decisions
The short film calls are designed to encourage Northern Ireland resident producers to make a significant contribution to developing talent within the local industry and to develop Northern Ireland resident creative talent (writer, director, producer teams). The seven shorts detailed below have been awarded production funding following their recent short film call.
- A Blessing for Eileen written by Emma Williamson
- Divine Intermission from writer/director Daniel Holmes
- Incoming Call from writer/director Eoin Cleland and producer PJ Hart
- Just a Box from writer Gary McElkerney, director Scott Newton and producer Janine Cobain
- Mamahen from writer/director Ryan Ralph and producer Trevor Birney
- Prick from writer/director/producer team Adrian Rowe and Emma Louise Dowds
- Time and Again from writer/director Aidan Largey and producer Margaret McGoldrick
Northern Ireland Screen’s next short film call will open on Tuesday 1st September with a deadline of Friday 3rd October..
Shorts to Features decisions
The aim of the Shorts to Features scheme is to provide an opportunity for emerging creative teams to create a live action or documentary short film which is tonally and thematically aligned with their feature film ambitions. Following Northern Ireland Screen’s recent call three creative teams have been selected to participate in the development process between June 2015 and February 2016. At the end of the development process Northern Ireland Screen will select up to three short films to go into production with a budgets of up to £20,000.

- Take the Shot from writer/director Rodger Griffith and producer Claire Mundell
Access Shorts decisions
Access Shorts is an initiative to find filmmakers exclusively from groups that are underrepresented in the film and television sector: females, females and males aged 30+, disabled people, black and minority ethnic, gay/lesbian/bisexual and transgender. Eligible applicants were asked to submit two short film ideas.
The six shorts listed below have been selected to be developed through a series of development meetings with Northern Ireland Screen’s Script Consultant and Short Film Executive. The development work will take place between July 2015 and February 2016. At the end of the development period Northern Ireland Screen will select up to three projects to go into production with a budget of up to £10,000 per short film.
