TG4 drama ‘Corp + Anam’ nominated for Prix Europa award
12 Sep 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
The second series of TG4’s award-winning drama ‘Corp + Anam’, starring Diarmuid de Faoite and Maria Doyle-Kennedy, has been nominated for an award at the prestigious Prix Europa Awards which will be held in Berlin in October. The four part series is written and directed by Darach Mac Con Iomaire and is produced by Galway-based Magamedia with funding from TG4 and the BAI. Every year Europe’s best television, radio and online productions are honoured at the Prix Europa in Berlin.

“We’re thrilled that ‘Corp + Anam’ has been selected from over 650 works, entered from 35 countries all across Europe,” said Darach Mac Con Iomaire. “It’s a big endorsement of the series, on its quality and ambition. We’re there now with the best of the best in Europe and this recognition is humbling.”

From the 18th to the 24th of October, the whole European media landscape will concentrate in Berlin, where media professionals from all over the continent will gather. Together they will screen the films and vigorously discuss the nominated productions. PRIX EUROPA is organised by a coalition of 28 big European broadcasters and institutions, amongst them the European Broadcasting Union.

“It will be fantastic to be part of this process as it presents us with a great opportunity to bring Corp + Anam to a wider European audience with a view to netting pre-sales for the third series which is currently in development,” said series producer Paddy Hayes. “‘Corp + Anam’ is now being heralded as the Celtic Noir and previous winners of the award include acclaimed TV dramas such as ‘The Bridge’ and ‘Murder’.”

With his marriage to Mairéad (Maria Doyle Kennedy) floundering, dogged TV crime correspondent Cathal Mac Iarnáin (Diarmuid de Faoite) buries himself in his investigative journalism, and launches a personal crusade against the Irish judiciary. This hard-hitting new series shines a light on one of the darkest corners of our society - the deep-rooted corruption of our legal system.

The series begins Thursday, 27th November 2014 at 9.30pm on TG4.

‘Corp + Anam’ was nominated in the TV Fiction category. Other Irish nominations were ‘The Disappeared’ (Erica Starling Productions) which was nominated in the TV Documentary category, and another TG4 programme, ‘Torthaí na Daoirse’, which has been nominated for TV IRIS (Best European Intercultural Television Programme).
