The National Film School will host a lecture with Robbie Ryan, one of Ireland’s leading cinematographers, on Wednesday, February 19th at 6pm.
The cinematographer is best known for his work on Stephen Frears’ ‘Philomena’ and Ruairi Robinson’s ‘Last Days on Mars’, as well as Sally Potter’s ‘Ginger & Rosa’, Ken Loach’s ‘The Angels’ Share’ and Andrea Arnold’s ‘Wuthering Heights’, for which he won a number of awards, including the prize for Outstanding Technical Contribution at the Venice Film Festival, an Evening Standard British Film Award, and a Bronze Frog at Camerimage. He has also shot two other films for Andrea Arnold: ‘Fish Tank’ and ‘Red Road’.
He was nominated for an IFTA Best Cinematography Award in 2007 for the film ‘Isolation’, a Castle Films production starring Essie Davis, Sean Harris, Ruth Negga and Stanley Townsend, and was also nominated in 2012 for Best Director of Photography in ‘Wuthering Heights’.
Dublin born Ryan began his studies at IADT, when it was the Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design.
Ryan will be interviewed by Ciarán Tanham, President of the Irish Society of Cinematographers, in association with the Irish Film Board on Wednesday, February 19th, in A021, Atrium Building IADT Dun Laoghaire at 6pm.
