Subtitle Film Festival Returns November 20-26th
20 Nov 2017 : Nathan Griffin
The Irish film festival for popular European subtitled films returns to Kilkenny this week with what is set to be its biggest year yet.

A number of European filmmakers and stars are set to make appearances at the festival, participate in post-screening Q&A’s and a number of discussions throughout the week. The festival will conclude with the Angela Awards, which will be hosted by Pauline McLynn and the Late Late house band, the Camembert Quartet.

An eclectic mix of 29 films will screen at this year’s festival that span across comedy, drama, action and thriller from Poland, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Belgium and France, Russia Bulgaria, Georgia and The Netherlands. Most of the Subtitle Film Festival programme this year has never been screened in Ireland and will enjoy their Irish debut during the weeklong festival.

The festival is set to host fifteen Irish premiers with a host of film directors and leading actors expected to attend over the week. Highlights of the week include: Valery Todorovsky’s drama ‘Bolshoi’, which will see Todorovsky himself in attendance for the Irish premiere; Alexei Uchitel’s stylish new film ‘Matilda’, which will also premier and welcome lead actress Michalina Olszanska; and the highly anticipated Finish film ‘Unknown Soldier’, which is set for its English-Language world premiere at Subtitle and will welcome director Aku Louhimies and ten other cast members to the screening.

Over 200 guests are expected in Kilkenny for the festival this week, which is also set to welcome over 50 European actors and a host of casting directors in an effort to give the opportunity to connect with new contacts and other members of the industry.

Casting agents such as Spotlight will also utilise this joint venture with Subtitle to help grow the number of European-based work opportunities for actors in the UK and Ireland.
