After celebrating their fifth birthday anniversary of the film commission and launch of the Discount Vendor Scheme last year, The FilmOffaly team will be returning to Filmbase this Thursday, 5th March 2015 to take part in ShortSpace.
Hosted at Filmbase on the first Thursday of every month, ShortSpace is a place for filmmakers and film fans to get together, screen and discuss short films and short filmmaking in an informal environment. This month the selection of short films lined-up for the event are all films that have been funded though FilmOffaly/Filmbase Short Film Award scheme.
This is nicely timed for filmmakers looking to apply for funding through the scheme as the next FilmOffaly/Filmbase Short Film Award deadline for submission is 3pm on Friday, 20th March 2015. The award will be given to one successful applicant who will receive €8,000 towards the cost of their production, along with one year’s membership to Filmbase, a 50% discount on equipment hire from Filmbase as well as other prizes.
The evening is a good chance for filmmakers to take a look at some of the films that have come through the award scheme and chat with the filmmakers. Attendees will also get the chance to hear from the FilmOffaly team on what they are looking for from applicants. One of the films that has come through the scheme is ‘Noreen’, a short film written and directed by Domhnall Gleeson, starring Brendan Gleeson and brother Brian Gleeson. The short was funded by Film Offaly in partnership with Filmbase and was shot over four days in various locations throughout Offaly.
Other short films screening at March’s ShortSpace are ‘Toy Soldiers’, ‘Men and Women’ and ‘The End of the Reel’.
The FilmOffaly/Filmbase ShortSpace Screening & Information Night will be held on Thursday 5th March at 7.00PM at Filmbase, Curved street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
