D-Light Studios Reveal Expansion Plan in Coming Months
01 Aug 2013 : By Erica Moriarty
D-Light Studios provides a space for photo, film & TV production, exhibition and events.
D-Light Studios, the Dublin-based facility for film and TV production, is planning to expand its headquarters in the coming months with a third studio to meet demand for its services.

Located on North Great Clarence Street in a two-storey stone warehouse dating back to the 1850s, the facility currently includes two large studios that can accommodate a wide range of productions.

Studio manager and photographer, Kenny Whittle spoke to IFTN this week and discussed their expansion plans.

‘We’re expanding the studio to the ground floor as well. Three more studios will open up down there. We’re looking for interest from different organizations in the creative industry to act as tenants and use the space,’ he said.

The studio spaces can be used for professional photography, film & TV production, exhibition space, product launches and events in a space designed to preserve the building’s character and provide clients with a practical work environment.

In the past two months, D-Light have housed several productions and exhibitions including the July Photo Ireland Festival and various TV production companies.

‘Business is doing great. The last few months have seen a few productions from RTÉ and TV3. And most recently we have had commercials for A-Wear, PETA and Eircom,’ Kenny added.

D-Light Studios is also the publishing company for BLOW magazine and has also seen Aertv's Back to Basics film irish bands such as The Strypes in studio.

‘The Voice of Ireland filmed there celebrity judges promotional pieces here also. Look out for a TG4 music show filmed in D-Light which will be aired this fall. We also have a new production from BBC filming here in the last few weeks of August, and we have our fingers crossed for another big American production which will hopefully coming in November.’

Although D-Light handles many international productions, the studio accommodates many Irish film productions as well.

‘I think this is a good time for Irish film. A lot of smaller companies are pitching ideas to the larger television networks and they’ve been picking them up and running with them. I think it’s good for all these freelance writers and companies that are coming out of the woodwork and making great stuff,’ Kenny added.
