‘The Artist’ actress to serve as mistress of ceremonies at Cannes…Bernice Bejo, the star of Oscar-winner ‘The Artist’, is to host the opening and closing ceremonies at next months Cannes film festival, according to reports in the French media. Officially Cannes will not confirm or deny the actresses involvement as the festival’s mistress of ceremonies ahead of tomorrow’s much-anticipated line-up announcement.
Netflix picks up ‘Lilyhammer’ streaming rights… Online video-on-demand service Netflix is continuing its brief to acquire original programming after picking up the UK and Ireland rights for ‘Lilyhammer’, the Norwegian mob drama starring Steven Van Zandt. The eight episodes are already available to Netflix customers in the US and Canada. The series will become available to subscribers after it airs on BBC4. Netflix will co-produce the second season.
Aronofsky to follow ‘Back Swan’ with George Washington biopic… Variety are reporting that Paramount Pictures are in talks to buy ‘The General,’ a George Washington biopic with Darren Aronofsky attached to produce and direct. Aronofsky’s last movie, the Oscar-nominated ‘Black Swan’, took $329m at the worldwide box office.
