George R.R. Martin, the man behind the best-selling novels which fantasy adventure ‘Game of Thrones’ is based, has revealed additional details about the upcoming third season.

HBO confirmed earlier this week the hugely popular drama will return to our screens for a third season. It was also confirmed yesterday that the series will return to the Paint Hall Studios in Belfast to shoot.

Writing on his blog, Martin confirmed season three will remain with the 10-episode format of seasons one and two. He also confirmed what industry professionals and fans have been speculating, that season three will cover the first half of ‘A Storm of Swords’, the third book in the seven-planned series.

The writer also announced an exclusive – that he will be writing the seventh episode, which currently has the working title ‘Autumn Storms’. As reported on IFTN last week, ‘Game of Thrones’ will return to Northern Ireland to shoot, and will take in new locations at the new sound stages in Belfast, the Linen Mill Film Studios in Banbridge, as well as various different locations around Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland Screen will assist on funding for the upcoming series, with support from Invest NI and the European Regional Development Fund. ‘Game of Thrones’ season two is currently airing on Sky Atlantic on Monday nights at 9pm.
