Treasure Entertainment Acquire Rights to novel 'Last Ones Left Alive'
07 Jun 2019 : News Desk
The Irish production company will adapt Sarah Davis-Goff’s best-selling dystopian novel.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Ireland, ‘Last Ones Left Alive’ follows a young woman who has been raised by her mother and another woman on an island off the west coast of Ireland. The mainland has been devoured by a ravening menace known as the skrake and while the islanders are safe for now, they must be ready to flee, or to fight, or to find other survivors and a cure.

Davis-Goff is highly involved in the Irish literary scene, running the well-known publisher Tramp Press, which she founded with Lisa Coen in 2014. It is understood that the author will be creatively involved in the project, but will not write the screenplay.

The adaptation announcement marks a busy development period for Treasure Entertainment, who recently received development funding from Screen Ireland for ‘Spartacus Rising’ and ‘Bi Bi Baby’, the latter of which will be written and directed by long-term collaborator John Butler. Treasure Entertainment’s latest feature ‘Papi Chulo’ was helmed by the Irish filmmaker - the third collaboration between the two, including ‘The Stag’ and ‘Handsome Devil’.

Speaking with Screen Daily, Author Sarah Davis-Goff said:

“Without really knowing it, I’ve been a fan of Treasure’s work since I was a teenager, loving movies like ‘I Went Down’, and more recently ‘The Stag’ and ‘Papi Chulo’.”

Rebecca O’Flanagan of Treasure Entertainment added:

“From my first read, I was struck by the visual nature of the book and could immediately see that it was a story that has huge potential to hit international screens with iconic and far-reaching success.”

Treasure’s latest feature, Hugh O’Conor’s directorial debut ‘Metal Heart’, is due to release on 28th June.
