Anne Daly & Ronan Tynan to Receive Award at Awareness Film Festival in Los Angeles
19 Sep 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Producers Ronan Tynan & Anne Daly will receive an award at the forthcoming Awareness Film Festival in Los Angeles. The US festival has selected ‘Syria - The Impossible Revolution’, which was produced by Daly and Tynan for Esperanza Productions.

The documentary traces the roots of the Syrian revolution, the bloody and brutal repression of the 2011 peaceful uprising, and how the world has turned away as Syria has become what the United Nations calls the greatest human catastrophe of the 21st Century.

Describing the award as particularly symbolic, co-producer Anne Daly told IFTN:

“(Due to the fact that) Ronan Tynan and I were moved to make this film as there was little or no awareness of what was actually going on in Syria since the peaceful uprising there in 2011. If truth is the first victim in any conflict, the efforts to obscure the story of the Syrian people and their very courageous stand, especially in 2011 when millions took to the streets marching for freedom and were gunned down, is still virtually an untold story.”

While this film documentary was made for a worldwide audience, Ronan Tynan said there is a remarkable hunger for understanding or analysis about Syria everywhere which was very evident at the Galway Film Fleadh where ‘Syria - The Impossible Revolution’ was selected for screening.

Speaking with IFTN, Tynan added:

“We were scheduled to screen on the same Sunday afternoon as the World Cup Final and were not expecting a big turnout especially as it coincided precisely with the broadcast of the sports event of the year! However, the cinema was packed with a full house and many had to be turned away at the box office. While there may be a lot of so called confusion about Syria it is equally clear there is a real demand for more informed analysis about the greatest human rights scandal of the 21st Century, which is so evident in Idlib now as people are literally protesting for their lives.”

Co-founded by Anne Daly and Ronan Tynan, Esperanza Productions is an award winning independent production company specialising in film documentaries about people making a difference for others, especially those who put their lives on the line defending the rights of others.

Awareness Film Festival takes place in LA on Saturday, October 14th, 2018.
