Screen Training Ireland Seek Skills Development Executive for Film and TV Drama Production

Screen Training Ireland are accepting applications for a vacant job position of ‘Skills Development Executive – Film & TV Drama Production’.

Screen Training Ireland (STI) is the national training and development body for Ireland’s film and television industry.  It was established in 1995 to provide ongoing training and career development opportunities for professionals working in the screen industry. STI comes under the auspices of Screen Ireland.

The screen sector encompasses the development and production of Film, Television, Animation, VFX, Post Production and emerging screen technologies and STI works across all these sectors.

The development of people and skills in the screen sector is a crucial component of growth and success and as part of our strategy for Audio-Visual training for the sector STI want to exponentially increase the training provision for the live-action sector.  This will include an increased focus on:

  • Hard Skills (departmental job role specific skills)
  • Soft Skills (people skills, management, HR, negotiation, conflict resolution)
  • Progression Frameworks for crew at all levels including trainees
  • Standards (health and safety, set pass, set etiquette)

A crucial element of the role will involve working with the STI Apprenticeship and Traineeship Executive on the design and implementation of skills development initiatives within a structured training environment for Trainees.  This will involve developing pathways into the industry, structured modular training and career paths beyond entry-level.

Role Description

This is a newly created full-time position working directly with and reporting to the STI Training Manager. The role will see the successful individual working across the live-action production of feature film and TV drama with industry guilds, heads of department, crew and producers.  The role will consist of skills analysis, role mapping and competency mapping across live-action departments.  The role will address gaps in skills and competencies and address future skills requirements within the live-action production sector.  The role will also involve working closely with all industry stakeholders in terms of standards for Health and Safety and the design of a new set pass scheme which can be rolled out to all stakeholders.

The role will consist of:

  • Skills gap analysis on an annual basis with regard to the live-action production sector.  This gap analysis should be on a departmental basis and should be able to map future skills requirements.
  • Design and implement industry relevant skills development initiatives which will address skills gaps and future skills.  Skills development initiatives can include direct course provision, mentoring, shadowing and structured on-the-job learning.
  • Liaising with all the various stakeholders in the live-action production sector with regard to standards, qualifications and bench-marks.
  • Regular dialogue and on-going assessment of skills needs.

Essential Qualities

  • Substantial and proven experience of working in live-action production.
  • Extensive knowledge of the roles within live-action production.
  • An understanding of the complexities of individual roles within each department.
  • An understanding of the various stakeholders within the live-action sector.
  • Experience of training in the AV sector.
  • An understanding of certification requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An excellent team worker.
  • A forward thinker and ideas generator and solution driven.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equality and diversity issues.

An aspect of unsocial hours may be a feature of this position.

You will also be expected to be conversant with the training strategy ‘Final Report in respect of a Strategy for the Development of Skills for the Audio-visual industry in Ireland’.

This is a sanctioned full-time 5 year fixed term post at HEO level at a starting salary of €47,552 with annual increments subject to performance.

Annual leave is 25 days per annum and this post will be part of the Screen Ireland Superannuation Scheme.

There will be a 6 month probationary period.

This position is directly responsible to the STI Training Manager.

The post will be based in the STI offices in Dublin but will involve some national travel.
