Pierce Brosnan is set to star in an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway novel ‘Across the River and Into the Trees’
Pierce Brosnan set to star in ‘Across the River and Into the Trees’, Colm Meaney cast in Young Shakespeare pilot ‘Will’ and Brendan Gleeson set to travel to Australia to star in ‘Mr Cranky’.

Pierce Brosnan joins cast of ‘Across the River and Into the Trees’

Pierce Brosnan is set to re-team with ‘GoldenEye’ director Martin Campbell in an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway novel ‘Across The River and Into the Trees’.

The script was written by BAFTA winner Peter Flannery and Oscar-nominated Michael Radford (Il Postino) and tells the story of an aging Colonel thinking about a young Venetian woman, Renata, and his experiences during World War II. Hemingway’s novel was originally published in 1950.

The film is scheduled to begin shooting in October 2016. Brosnan and Campbell are currently shooting ‘The Foreigner’, an action thriller which co-stars Jackie Chan and Irish actress Charlie Murphy.

Recent roles of Brosnan’s include ‘Escape Plan’ opposite Owen Wilson and last year he shot John Moore’s ‘I.T’ in Ireland

Colm Meaney cast in TNT pilot ‘Will’

Colm Meaney has been cast in ‘Will’, TNT’s drama pilot chronicling the 20’s of William Shakespeare.

The ‘Hell on Wheels’ actor, who also is a voice actor on Telegael’s ‘Norm of the North which is currently showing in the US, will play James Burbage, a carpenter with a vision: to build the first theatre in London since Roman times.

The pilot will be directed by Shekhar Kapur (‘Elizabeth’) which was written by Craig Pearce, the longtime writing partner of auteur filmmaker Baz Luhrmann. Actor Mattias Inwood has also been cast in the series.

An upcoming role of Meaney’s is Nick Hamm’s ‘The Journey’, where he will play Martin McGuinness opposite Timothy Spall’s Ian Paisley.

Brendan Gleeson to star in Australian crime comedy ‘Mr Cranky’

Brendan Gleeson (‘In Bruges’) will star as a crime boss debt collector with a bad temper who is saddled with an orphaned seven year old in the middle of a gangland war in crime comedy ‘Mr Cranky’.

Jonathan Teplizky (‘The Railway Man’) is set to direct the film which tells the story of Kevin Darcy (Gleeson) whose girlfriend becomes the victim of a car bomb intended for him, and he finds himself saddled with her seven-year-old daughter.

The film is a Pictures in Paradise Production, developed by Screen Australia and Screen Queensland, and will be distributed by Transmission Films in Australia and New Zealand and is scheduled to start shooting in Melbourne later this year.

Recent credits of Gleeson’s include ‘Suffragette’, ‘In The Heart of the Sea’ and Irish film ‘Pursuit’, as well as ‘Alone In Berlin’ which is scheduled to screen at Berlinale.
