Post House End of Year Round-Up: Outer Limits Founder Eugene McCrystal on their 2015 and what’s in store for 2016
20 Dec 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Outer Limits worked on ‘Room’ in 2015
Continuing our End Of Year Post House Round-Up, we talk to Outer Limits Founder Eugene McCrystal about their year of transition and an exciting 2016 on the horizon.

Projects they have worked on in 2015 include ‘You’re Ugly Too’, ‘Notorious’, ‘The Queen of Ireland’, ‘The Hardy Bucks’ and the much buzzed about Oscar contender ‘Room’.

IFTN: What have been the highlights of 2015 for Outer Limits?

Eugene McCrystal: ‘It has been a pretty busy year for us with several big changes. On the office front, we have settled into our new premises in the heart of Dun Laoghaire. This move, in late 2014, was partly to accommodate Gary Curran joining the company as colourist and company director. We (and our clients) were delighted to have someone of his calibre join us. We also decided to take the opportunity to change the name of the company from EMC Post Production to Outer Limits Post Production. The final change of 2015 was the setting up of our Outer Limits VFX department, which is being headed up by Andy Clarke. We are really excited to be adding to the team here and to be able to offer our clients a wider range of services.’

‘We have done so much great work this year that it’s unfair to single out any one project but we think ‘Room’, directed by Lenny Abrahamson for Element Pictures, deserves to get a special mention. It’s a great film and having won the People’s Choice Award in Toronto and three nominations for the Golden Globes it’s great to be a part of the success story. Outer Limits carried out the grade and online in 4K all the way to final distribution of 4K DCP. We were delighted to be involved in some other great work during 2015 including Savage Productions 'You’re Ugly Too’, Motive’s ’Notorious’, Blinder’s ‘Queen of Ireland’, Tile's ‘Waterloo’ and the third series of 'Hardy Bucks’.

Do you have any programs in the Christmas television schedule?

For Christmas, look out for 'Nathan Carter' from Tyrone Productions directed by Maurice Linnane and 'The Beatles Visit to Ireland' from Mind the Gap directed by Garry Keane.

What’s in store for the first quarter of 2016?

‘2016 already looks exciting. Our first big job will be a centenary project with Tile Films and we are also pleased to continue to support South Wind Blows’ with 'Other Voices’ series.

Stay tuned to IFTN for more End of Year Round-Ups.
