The nominations for the 2016 Satellite Awards, annual awards given by the International Press Academy, have been announced and there promises to be a heavy Irish presence at the ceremony which takes place in Los Angeles on Feb. 21.
Gaining yet another significant boost in the race for Oscar nominations, Irish films ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘Room’ have both been nominated in the category of Best Motion Picture.
In addition to this, Saoirse Ronan is nominated for Best Actress for her widely praised performance in ‘Brooklyn’ (alongside Brie Larson for ‘Room’) while Michael Fassbender is nominated for his titular role in Danny Boyle’s ‘Steve Jobs’.
Lenny Abrahamson is also nominated in the category of Best Director for ‘Room’ with the film being nominated for three awards overall.
For television, ‘Penny Dreadful’ - which shoots in Ardmore Studios in Bray – and ‘Game of Thrones’ – which shoots in Titanic Studios in Belfast – have both been nominated in the category of Television Series, Genre.
The International Press Academy is a global media association of domestic and foreign entertainment journalists in print, TV, radio, broadcast, and online outlets; including critics, interviewers, reviewers, bloggers, and photographers.
The presentation of the 20th Annual Satellite Awards will take place in Century City, California on February 21st, 2016.
