DAFF announces programme of guest speakers
12 Oct 2015 : Seán Brosnan
Dublin Animation Film Festival (DAFF) Ireland’s only film festival dedicated solely to animation has announced its programme of guest speakers.

Dublin Animation Film Festival is an annual event designed to celebrate both national and international animators and is five years old this year.

The festival will take place this year on the 16th and 17th October 2015 at IADT (Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology) and the Pavilion Theatre in Dún Laoghaire.

The first day of the festival will focus on guest lectures at IADT, and screenings and the DAFF 2015 Awards ceremony will take place at The Pavilion Theatre on the 17th October.

Festival Director Fionnghuala Ni Neill graduated with an MA in Film Studies from UCD in 2001. She worked in theatre and film and while she was working on her series of short films she saw the need for greater supports for fringe film-makers.

With the support of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Local Enterprise Board, and her passion for film she started the first animation film festival in Blackrock in 2011. The festival received 45 entries and was held in Blackrock until 2013. As it grew in size and popularity, it rebranded and became the Dublin Animation Film Festival in 2014 attracting some of the biggest names in film animation. The opening film of the new festival was the Irish premiere of 'Cheatin' by Academy Award nominee, Bill Plympton at the Pavilion Theatre.

This year, the Dublin Animation Film Festival will welcome Tomm Moore, co-creator of Cartoon Saloon to the screening of their Oscar-nominated feature ‘Song of the Sea’.

Other Guest speakers include Damien O’Connor (Brown Bag Films Dublin), Nelson Lowry (Laika Studios Portland, Oregan), Ian Mackinnon (Mackinnon and Saunders, UK) and Michele Chiappa (Karrot Animation, UK).

Tickets are on sale at the Pavilion Theatre, Dún Laoghaire - €5 per child, €7.50 per adult and €22 for a family ticket.

There will also be free screenings of the shortlisted films for the DAFF 2015 awards. There is no ticket charge for the screening of the shortlisted films or the awards.

Dublin Animation Film Festival is sponsored by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, The National Film School, IADT, Diep at Home, Dún Laoghaire Business Improvement District and Blackrock Cellar.

Festival updates will be available on www.dublinanimationfilmfestival.com and on Twitter @dublinanimation.
