‘Game of Thrones’ was the big winner when the Emmy nominations were announced earlier this week picking up a massive 24 nominations.
The Belfast-shot show, which is currently in pre-production of their sixth series, has more nominations than any other show this year with ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ (19) and ‘Olive Kitteridge’ (13) trailing behind.
The 24 nominations include a fourth consecutive nomination in the category of Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) for Ronan Hill. He was nominated for the Season Five episode Hardhome. Hill’s work on the show has been recognized since the show’s inception with the Production Sound Mixer picking up six awards in total for the HBO show – including two CAS Awards, two TEC Awards, an IFTA Award and an Emmy for the season two episode ‘Blackwater’.
Northern Ireland's Carla Stronge has also been nominated for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.
‘Game of Thrones’ have also garnered their fourth consecutive Emmy nomination for the acclaimed VFX on the show. Part of the massive international VFX team is Screen Scene VFX in Dublin. VFX Supervisor at Screen Scene is Ed Bruce, Co-ordinator is Nicholas Murphy and Producer is Alan Collins.
Also of Irish interest is the three nominations for Ardmore Studios shot ‘Penny Dreadful’ (Prosthetic Make-Up, Original Main Title and Music Composition) and the one nomination for ‘Vikings’ (VFX), which is shot in Ashford Studios.
The Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015.
