'The Dancehall Bitch' will be the third film in a trilogy which also featured 'Charlie Casanova' and 'Patrick's Day'
As ‘Patrick’s Day’ continues its successful run across the country, its writer/director Terry McMahon reveals details of his next film, ‘The Dancehall Bitch’, exclusively to IFTN.

The screenplay of ‘The Dancehall Bitch’ has been selected for the upcoming ‘Sofia Meetings’ at the Sofia Film Festival and the production will re-unite several of the key creative personnel behind the multi-award winning ‘Patrick’s Day’ including being produced by Tim Palmer of Ignition Films.

Speaking to IFTN, Terry McMahon said: ‘The Dancehall Bitch’ will complete our trilogy of politically provocative and socially conscious films that explore the ethics, politics and culture of our country as we examine our national taboos on the international stage.’

‘The Dancehall Bitch’ will tell the story of Isaac, a frustrated writer and virgin dreamer who witnesses an ingenious bank robbery and finally writes the first chapter of the book he has always yearned to write, using the thief as his central character. Problem is Isaac doesn’t have the imagination to create the next chapter. But, when the thief is arrested, Isaac suddenly has chapter two. In a desperate act to find chapter three, Isaac dons a mask, buys a fake gun and gets himself arrested and thrown into the same prison as the charismatic criminal. When the criminal learns about Isaac’s plans to immortalize him in a book the criminal arranges for the two of them to become cellmates and so begins Isaac’s education in masculine mythmaking feminine unmasking.’

Terry McMahon continued: ‘Detailing the impact of different forms of disenfranchisement, the first film, ‘Charlie Casanova’, showed the working class being set-up, demonized and destroyed. The second film, ‘Patrick’s Day’, showed the personification of mentally illness being set up, demonized and almost destroyed. With the final film of this trilogy, the harrowing prison drama ‘The Dancehall Bitch’, we will push these themes even further.’

Terry McMahon’s current film ‘Patrick’s Day’ starring Moe Dunford and Kerry Fox is in cinemas now.
