Lance Daly’s film Life’s a Breeze, starring Fionnula Flanagan (‘The Others’, ‘The Guard’) and Pat Shortt (‘Garage’, ‘Calvary’), will be released in the United States on September 19th. The film will be released in Los Angeles and New York as well as VOD, followed by a national rollout. The feature is a Fasnet Films production which Daly directed, wrote and produced, and Macdara Kelleher also produced.
The film is a dramatic comedy set in the recession which follows a family struggling to stay afloat and together through tough times. When the family makes a well-intentioned attempt to clean out their mother’s house, they accidently throw away a mattress in which she has been storing her life savings. Nan, her unemployed slacker son Colm and his niece Emma (played by newcomer Kelly Thornton) must overcome their differences and lead their family in a race against time to find a lost fortune.
‘Life’s a Breeze’ is Daly’s second Irish feature film after his critically acclaimed debut ‘Kisses’, which won the Best Director and Best Editing awards at the Irish Film and Television Awards, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film. ‘Life’s a Breeze’ received nominations at this year’s IFTAs for Best Actress (Thornton) and Best Supporting Actress (Flanagan). At the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh, the film won the Bingham New Talent prize, awardeded to Kelly Thornton, and won Second Place in the Audience Award.
‘Life’s a Breeze’ joins a number of other Irish films in securing a US release this autumn, including Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Song of the Sea’, Ivan Kavanagh’s horror feature ‘The Canal’ and Des Doyle’s documentary ‘Showrunners’.
