Irish Film ‘Covet’ to Premiere in Arizona
16 Apr 2014 : Aisling Newton
Irish writer/director Liam O Mochain’s short film ‘Covet’ will receive its US premiere at the 2014 Arizona International Film Festival on Monday, April 21 in Tucson, Arizona. The film will screen in the Irish Shorts Programme.

Five Irish shorts will screen in the Irish shorts programme alongside ‘Covet’ at the Screening Room in Arizona. These include ‘The Country Man’ from Eamonn Norris, which screened at the 2013 Charlie Chaplin Film Festival; Ciaran Cassidy’s ‘The Last Days Of Peter Bergmann’, an official selection at the 2014 Sundance film festival; ‘The Missing Scarf’ from Eoin Duffy, which was long listed for the 2013 Academy Awards; and Shane Hogan’s ‘There Is No Charge For The Hat’. The Arizona International Film Festival will also screen two Irish feature films in this year’s festival, Tom Ryan’s ‘Trampoline’ on April 22 and ‘The O’Briens’ from Richard Waters and Emma Gahan on April 23.

‘Covet’ recently screened earlier this year at the Belfast Film Festival, at the 2013 Kerry Film Festival and at the Dublin International Short Film Festival last year. The quirky 12 minute short film features Bridget (Marion O’Dwyer) who talks candidly about her first and only true love. O Mochain (Grand Opening, The Book That Wrote itself) said that: “’Covet’ was inspired by one of the Ten Commandments.” The main cast includes Marion O’Dwyer (Ondine, Agnes Browne), Donnacha Crowley (Kings, The Runaway), Liam O Mochain (Country Man, The Court Astronomer), Gail Brady (The Callback Queen) and Paul Daly (WC). Working behind the scenes on the film were; DOP Fionn Comerford (Love Eternal); production designer Damien Byrne (The Standup); sound recordist Niall O’Sullivan (Frank); 1st AD Eamonn Norris (Grand Opening); hair & make up Caoimhe Arrigan (Death of a President); editor Ciara Brophy (The Crush); composer Richie Buckley (WC, The General) and producer Bernie Grummell (Grand Opening, The Book That Wrote Itself).

‘Covet’ is O Mochain’s 8th film. His 2007 feature film ‘WC’ won best foreign film at Las Vegas International Film Festival, best film at the Waterford Film Festival and screened at the Montreal World Film Festival. O Mochain’s debut feature film ‘The Book That Wrote Itself’ gained a lot of international attention when it premiered at the 1999 Vancouver International Film Festival and went on to screen at many film festivals worldwide.

The Arizona International Film Festival runs from April 11 -27, 2014. More information on the Irish shorts screening at the festival can be found here
