Irish horror ‘Portrait of a Zombie’, helmed by Finglas director Bing Bailey and filmed on location in Dublin, has secured a distribution deal with Studio Canal for a DVD release next month in Ireland and Europe.
The low budget horror film follows a working class family in Finglas who become caught up in a zombie invasion, resulting in eldest son Billy becoming infected and turning into a zombie himself.
Instead of killing him, however, the family decide to take care of Billy in their home despite resistance from the neighbours as the zombie chaos spreads throughout Dublin.
Shooting locations include Mellowes Avenue in Finglas, Smithfield, College Green and Glasnevin Cemetery, and the film was produced by Laura Morand Bailey and Bing Bailey for Organ Hill Films.
Cast members include Patrick Murphy (‘Love/Hate’), Geraldine McAlinden (‘How to Be Happy’), Rory Mullen (‘Hunger’), Paul O’Bryan (‘Invasion Ireland’), Sonya O’Donoghue (‘Jack Taylor: The Dramatist’) and Todd Fletcher (‘Lincoln’).
‘Portrait of a Zombie’ won Best Independent Feature at the Dublin Underground Film Festival in 2012, screened at the Galway Film Fleadh, and was part of the official selection at several international film festivals including as Cinequest in San Jose, California, and the Telluride Horror Show in Colorado.
The Irish Times described it as ‘impressively disgusting’, noting that ‘Bing deserves serious praise for locating real emotion in such a fantastic tale.’
